I want to help GAY STUDENTS...how do I know???

Hello! I just joined (saw you on HULU.COM god bless them). I have at least 2 questions: (1) I want to help gay men like myself. How do I know id the student is gay? (2) I read some student profiles and their expected date of graduation has passed; well, why do they still need money? Thank you.

    Hi there,

    Thanks so much for writing in--and for joining Vittana! We're glad to have you as a part of the community. :)

    To answer your first question, sexual preferences/orientation is something that we can't explicitly ask of Vittana students. When they fill out their forms, they do so as part of their loan application process, and as with any financial institution, that's not a question that we can make a requirement. If a student does ever freely share that information in his or her application, I'd be more than happy to pass along the link to their student profile to you if you'd like? :)

    Secondly, could you tell me the students in particular that you saw had graduation dates that have already passed? Sometimes our filters don't always catch an incorrect year.

    Hi Miri,

    Thanks for writing in, and for supporting Vittana students! As said above, we have no way of knowing sexual preference/orientation unless a student explicitly shares that (and only one has to date), but if I see any profile submissions come in that do include that, I'll let you know.

    Hey Miri and Rev. Donal, yes as the LGBT lending team leader it would be great if we could give special props to some of our own peeps, but it's just not info that they're going to collect in general as Sophie said. The group idea we've kind of settled on is to sponsor as many students as possible, then certainly some of them will be LGBT :D . Even ones who aren't, maybe they'll meet (more) LGBT students during their last years at school and become even stronger allies :-) . Cheers! -jeff
