Social impact of education

Next to income change it would be nice to see what the social impact is of the students' education. For example, when they go into nursing, or education, how they can help more people or make a bigger difference with their education. Besides their increased salaries, I would like to invest in people that contribute to their societies.

    Hi there,

Thanks so much for writing in, and for the great suggestion! I agree that social impact of an empowered individual is a huge part of the poverty puzzle. Though we don't currently have the capacity to attach social impact on a per-country basis to each profession, it's definitely a good idea for the future.

Actually, this is a great research project for our intern program, and something I'd love to tackle in the future. Though I can't guarantee anything before the end of 2011, it's definitely something to take into consideration moving forward.

Great idea, and thanks so much again for passing it along!

    Best regards,

    Sophie

    Hi--

Just wanted to give you a quick update since it's been a month since I was last in touch.

As part of our volunteer activation and outreach program, we partner with US universities/student groups for distance internship programs. We most recently began just such a partnership with a group of students that will be researching social impact of Vittana student professions on a country-by-country basis. In addition to this, we're also hoping to add details about what life looks like in various partner countries at $X/day, and how Vittana student incomes compare.

We'll continue to update this forum as things move forward, and though I can't promise that things will be live on the site in the first few months of 2012, this data is definitely something that we hope will add value to our student stories as we move forward.

Many thanks for your patience with us as we continue to grow!

    Best,

    Sophie

    Dear Sophie,

great to hear. If you are interested in far outreach programs, say as far as The Netherlands :-), I might be able to get you students from Utrecht University as well. Or we could try to make an assignment from Vittana part of our course in Social Entrepreneurship.

Here is a good starting point for the students; Measuring Social Value article in Stanford Social Innovation review
    http://www.ssireview.org/pdf/2010SU-F...

Looking forward to see how you progress. I entered Vittana in our department's Christmas charity event, so keep your fingers crossed :-).

    Kind regards,

    Codrin

happy I’m super excited to discuss this further.
    Hi Codrin,

I meant to respond to this earlier, so my apologies, but your recent entry elsewhere was a perfect reminder. I did indeed cross my fingers, and it looks like it paid off! Again, thank you. :)

Yes! I think a partnership with Utrecht University is a great idea. Though I don't yet know what kind of assignment would be good to tackle, it'd be great to connect on a remote internship basis in the future.

Again, I'm about to reach out to you via email regarding the Christmas Charity event (just need to have a short discussion regarding the best way to handle funds), and would love to start a conversation about connecting with Utrecht's Social Entrepreneurship course from there as well. Honestly, I think that whatever you can dream up in terms of research that could directly impact (and most importantly, improve!) the content on our student pages would be a great place to start.

Thanks again, and looking forward to connecting further.

    Best,

    Sophie
